HISTORIC JOURNEYS
A COLLECTION OF COLLECTIONS AND RECOLLECTIONS
For a number of years, I have written articles for a local magazine. Many have been based on my trips around the country collecting historical places. On this website are many of those articles, along with some more detailed descriptions of my journeys and recollections of my time in primary schools and walking the length of England.

CATHEDRAL JOURNEYS
On a whim, my friend 'A' and I decide to visit all the Anglican cathedrals in England. What starts as a good excuse for a day out because a consuming desire to complete the collection, fitting in trips to far flung corners of the kingdom when our diaries match.
This is an extended version of a number of articles with detail about all the cathedrals we visited plus details of all my other place collections
LONDON CONNECTIONS
There is no other city quite like London. On my frequent visits, I have covered many miles but on a few occasions I have set out with a mind to collect. My first foray was to visit all the squares on a classic London Monopoly board. Later I embarked upon visiting 60 medieval churches with the square mile of the City of London.

CASTLES & BATTLEFIELDS
Edward I, after his conquest of Wales, built a defensive ring of castles to defend his new kingdom and, over two days, I visit all of them.

Two hundred years later and England is riven with civil war during the Wars of the Roses. A trip to each battlefield is described here.
DANCING ON THE TABLES
After 37 years in primary schools, I have a wealth of stories to tell. Many of these tales first appeared as Staffroom Memories but there are many more.
Hear how I turned brown during a concert, got stranded on a hillside with 30 children and a teacher with vertigo, got banned from using glitter, oh and when I danced on the tables.

WALKING ENGLAND
It began as walk in the Cotswolds to celebrate a friend's birthday and ended up taking many years as we walked from Chesil Beach on the south coast to Gretna Green over the Scottish border.
During our many excursions, I saw Vardy score his first goal, ate the worst restaurant curry and listened to Sting endlessly singing Fields of Gold.
